FELINE CORONAVIRUS (FCoV) RESEARCH

Please visit Langford Veterinary Services for more information.

Our study requires tissue samples collected from cats that have died from any cause or disease, and at any age; we are not specifically recruiting FIP cases.

Many thanks again for your help with this research. We hope that it will benefit many cats in the future through its findings.

OCICAT AND OCICAT CLASSIC BREED ADVISORY COMMITTEE

STATEMENT FROM THE BAC

It has come to the BAC’s attention that there is a degree of misunderstanding about the application that has been made for a change of name for the Ocicat Classic and the attendant documentation requested by the Board.

The Ocicat Classic was recognised and progressed to Championship Status as a breed in its own right but is constantly being scheduled and treated as a pattern variation of the Ocicat despite frequent attempts to clarify the situation. Therefore the BAC has applied to the Board for a change of name of the Ocicat Classic to the AZTEC. This has been accepted.

As part of the application the Board requested that the BAC provide up to date registration policies and a breeding policy for both the Ocicat and the Aztec. This the BAC has done. The registration policies are no different in content from those that currently exist. Only the format has changed to make them more useful to breeders and include the GEMS codes for clarification, with AZT agreed by FIFe for the Aztec. In all other respects the allowed inter-mating of Ocicat and Aztec (Ocicat Classic), outcrossing to Abyssinians and the use of variants with attendant overstamping in breeding programmes has not changed. There has also been no change in the requirement for Abyssinian and imported cats used in breeding programmes to be DNA tested clear for PKDef and PRA.

If approved by Council the BAC will be renamed the Ocicat and Aztec Breed Advisory Committee and there will continue to be a single list of judges for the two breeds in the same way as there is with the Korat and Thai cats.
